Honda City R (1981)

In 1981 Honda introduced an all new car in the compact market range, the City. It is a small
but roomy car. Its design concept is called "Tall Boy" because of its hight of 1,470 mm. With
a length of 3,380 mm and a width of 1570 mm it is only slightly bigger than the then common
Kei car dimensions of 3,200 mm respectively 1,400 mm. Its 1,231-ccm-engine (much much
more than the 550 ccm of the Kei cars) produces 63 hp at 5,000 rpm which run 675 kg curb
weight. So the car isn’t very fast. Honda originally never regarded the City as a sporty or even
a sports car. Its name shows what it should be – a city car with small exterior but (relatively)
large interior.
